2020 turned out to be a year nobody had expected. But, as we enter 2021, we have our fingers crossed that the future will be bright. Last year, Apple made some major moves, many of which set the stage for bigger announcements in 2021. So, let’s put the past behind us and project ourselves forward.
Although 2021 isn’t likely to be “normal”—or what used to be the definition of the word—the American tech giant has proven that it can continue to churn out innovative, premium-quality products—even amidst a global pandemic.
So what can we expect to come out of the company’s pipeline? Here are three things to expect from Apple in 2021.
The Coming of the M2
Apple’s move to its proprietary custom silicon got off to a great start last year. However, many Mac-lovers have found themselves waiting for the other shoe to drop. There’s no doubt that the M1 Macs we’ve seen until now have been impressive, but we’ve only seen Apple’s own processors in its lower –range products up until now.
Rumors are already swirling that Apple silicon Macs are on the horizon, however, right now, the likely scenario is that we’ll witness transitions of the top-end 13-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros—and maybe a low-end iMac—sooner rather than later, as they seem most likely to be the next rungs of the ladder. The Mac Pro is likely to be the last in line.
Apple’s Very Own Cellular Chips
As we’re already discussing Apple manufacturing its own chips, it’s not only processors that the company is looking to move in-house. Intel’s business was purchased by Apple a couple of years ago, and it’s been reported that the company has already started working on designing its proprietary custom cellular chips to be used in future iPhones and other cellular devices.
Computing In The Post-COVID Era
This may be a bit off-center, but we’re curious to see if the company’s plans for 2021 include continuing adapting to the unfamiliar situation the world finds itself right now. Apple’s executives praised the company’s personnel for continuing to do great work throughout the global health crisis. However, there are still many areas where the company can make people’s lives easier. For instance, many Apple users would greatly benefit from further improvements to FaceTime which will bring its features on par with competitors, such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
